By 1969, the C3 Corvette was taking off! 1969 was also the first year that the Corvette carried the name Stingray as a single word rather than the previously used 'Sting Ray' spelling. Larry Shinoda's 1965 Mako Shark II concept car was the inspiration for the C3 Corvette, and looking at photos of the Mako Shark II reveals a striking amount of similarities.
This 1969 Corvette is a real factory 427 big block car. The engine block has been decked previously, so confirming whether or not this is the original 427 is not possible, but the casting numbers show that the engine is indeed period correct. A look at the exterior of the car reveals attractive red paint, which is showing a bit of its age. The paint looks great even up close, but there are some small cracks in various areas. Someone talented with a buff wheel could really bring back the lift to the paint. All of the exterior chrome is in nice condition, and the panel gaps are even and straight.
Sit down inside the Corvette, and you'll be greeted with an automatic transmission and tilt column. The interior is clean and complete, and makes for a very comfortable ride. This car has fiber optic lamp indicators in the console. These fiber optics are essentially a solid-state indicator for whether or not exterior lamps are functioning. If the fiber optics aren't lit up, the coordinating lamp is out! The car was equipped with T-tops and a quick look at the option break down and you'll see its a very odd option breakdown. It has tilt, telescopic, no a/c, 427/400, t-tops, and an automatic.
Overall, this is a great driver-quality big block Corvette. This would be the perfect vehicle to enjoy as-is, or use as a starting point to take to the next level!
